Le Marche is a region in Italy between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine mountains. It borders Umbria and Tuscany and is divided into 5 provinces Ascoli Piceno, Macerata, Ancona, Pesaro and Fermo. The area is comprised of coastal land in the east that rises to the mountains in the west approximately an hour away by car. Le Marche has many small villages and medieval towns, farmland, beaches and overall spectacular scenery.
The region provides a variety of options from enjoying museums, opera, or ancient churches to hiking and cycling through the countryside and national parks, to swimming and water sports in the waters of the Mediterranean. The beaches range from sandy secluded ones only accessible by boat to ones that are part of extensive resorts. Le Marche offers an exquisite food selection including local seafood and farm raised meats and poultry, pastas, cheeses, breads and truffles. Small family run wineries produces many of the fine white and red wines of this region.
There are several music festivals, a medieval pageant, open-air opera, and wine and truffle fairs in Le Marche. The region offers something for everyone.
