The Vanguard S&P Small-Cap 600 ETF (VIOO) is seeing unusually high volume in afternoon trading Friday, with over 227,000 shares traded versus three month average volume of about 41,000. Shares of VIOO were down about 0.1% on the day.

In trading on Friday, the SPDR S&P Oil & Gas Exploration & Production ETF (XOP) is outperforming other ETFs, up about 0.8% on the day. Components of that ETF showing particular strength include shares of PBF Energy (PBF), up about 5% and shares of HollyFrontier (HFC), up about 3.8% on the day.

Looking at units outstanding versus one week prior within the universe of ETFs covered at ETF Channel, the biggest outflow was seen in the iShares Currency Hedged MSCI Japan ETF (HEWJ), where 1,950,000 units were destroyed, or a 4.5% decrease week over week. And on a percentage change basis, the ETF with the biggest outflow was the First Trust Eurozone AlphaDEX ETF (FEUZ), which lost 100,000 of its units, representing a 33.3% decline in outstanding units compared to the week prior.

Comparing units outstanding versus one week ago at the coverage universe of ETFs at ETF Channel, the biggest inflow was seen in the iShares Gold Trust (IAU), which added 9,000,000 units, or a 1.3% increase week over week. And on a percentage change basis, the ETF with the biggest increase in inflows was the First Trust Managed Municipal ETF (FMB), which added 600,000 units, for a 32.4% increase in outstanding units.

The MLP ETF (MLPA) is seeing unusually high volume in afternoon trading Thursday, with over 1.5 million shares traded versus three month average volume of about 319,000. Shares of MLPA were up about 0.4% on the day.

In trading on Thursday, the SPDR S&P Metals & Mining ETF (XME) is outperforming other ETFs, up about 3.4% on the day. Components of that ETF showing particular strength include shares of Suncoke Energy (SXC), up about 17% and shares of Kaiser Aluminum (KALU), up about 9.8% on the day.

Looking at units outstanding versus one week prior within the universe of ETFs covered at ETF Channel, the biggest outflow was seen in the SPDR Bloomberg Barclays High Yield Bond ETF (JNK), where 7,000,000 units were destroyed, or a 2.3% decrease week over week. And on a percentage change basis, the ETF with the biggest outflow was the ProShares Ultra MSCI Japan (EZJ), which lost 25,000 of its units, representing a 16.7% decline in outstanding units compared to the week prior.

Comparing units outstanding versus one week ago at the coverage universe of ETFs at ETF Channel, the biggest inflow was seen in the iShares MSCI Europe Financials ETF (EUFN), which added 8,200,000 units, or a 21.9% increase week over week. And on a percentage change basis, the ETF with the biggest increase in inflows was the WisdomTree Negative Duration High Yield Bond Fund (HYND), which added 200,000 units, for a 33.3% increase in outstanding units.

The iShares Global Energy ETF is seeing unusually high volume in afternoon trading Wednesday, with over 630,000 shares traded versus three month average volume of about 208,000. Shares of IXC were down about 0.8% on the day.

In trading on Wednesday, the SPDR S&P Biotech ETF is outperforming other ETFs, up about 1.5% on the day. Components of that ETF showing particular strength include shares of Insmed, up about 5.7% and shares of Sage Therapeutics, up about 5% on the day.
