Retired to Tenerife

When anyone finds out how long we have lived here they always want to know what we do with how time. I can’t understand the question really. What does everyone do in the UK? I have a house and a garden, which takes up a lot of time, friends come and go during the year not necessarily to stay with us, but we still spend time with them when they are here, we enjoy the barbecue centers in the mountains. There is a group of us who meet up two or three times a year for a day in the mountains.

There is plenty for us to explore on the island. After 23 years here we are still finding places we haven’t seen before, we still have a long list of places and things we want to see, we just don’t seem to have the time !!

I retired and moved to Tenerife (Canary Islands) with my husband after having a successful Motorsport Mail Order Business for 20 years, After 20 years of seven day weeks with very little time off, it was just wonderful to have so much time to ourselves, we spend our time exploring the Island of Tenerife, we have now been here for 23 years and are still finding new places. Decided to start a blog to let people know what Tenerife has to offer away from the coast, I have never written or done anything like this before so it’s been learn as I go, still learning and updating……. • Sounds great, we are already retired here in cold, wet Scotland. Is it still possible to move to Tenerife?

  • We are uk passport holders and australian and currently live in France having been here for 13 years now. We have now reached the age of 80 and would love to live somewhere a bit warmer and do not wish to return to Australia or uk. could we transfer for Tenerife and would we qualify for private insurance and be covered by the uk as we are now. Any restrictions with regard to purchasing a property although I think we would need to rent initially having never been to Tenerife. What is the inheritance law? Hope not too many questions for my first post!

  • I am American, retired with wife from states to Puerto Rico last year. Braved Maria, and doing fine here, but want out of hurricane zone. Have a friend in Cape Verde, went to visit several years ago. Loved it. A little underdeveloped for us though. Never been to Canaries. Going to Canaries and Cape Verde next year. Where should we go in Canaries for nice quiet, peaceful, but things to do, island there. How does Sal or Boa Vista, in Cape Verde, compare to Canaries. I say that, because if I chose Cape Verde, those seemed more developed than other Cape Verde islands. What about health insurance for retirees?

  • I am uncertain regarding expat residency visa requirements for US citizens. I would like to consider the Canaries. However, I just cannot seem to find much on line.
