From Reluctant Campers to Committed Full-time RVers

We have traversed the country 4 times and we are planning a fifth trip. This time we will leave Florida and cross slowly west to Arizona until temperatures rise farther north. Then we will move up the west coast through California, Oregon and Washington stopping often to sample National Parks and Monuments along the way. Then we will head east along beautiful but rural US Route 2. It will take us through Idaho and Montana and into North Dakota. I’m sure we will stop at Glacier National Park besides other State Parks. Then it’s on to Minnesota and Wisconsin and to the beautiful upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Then we will cross the Mackinac Bridge and down through Michigan. Then we will drop down to Indiana’s Amish country and east to Maryland to visit one of our kids. By then, the weather will have started to cool off and we will scurry back down to Florida for the winter again. Of course, as usual, our plans are set in Jello. We can change our plans at any time to take advantage of a festival or special event that may set us off in a totally new direction. That’s one of the joys of taking your home with you.

This is a great and wondrous lifestyle for us; but it isn’t for everyone. You have to enjoy being together in a hallway 24/7. Many other folks are out here doing this. The last statistic I saw indicated there are more than one and a half million couples or singles living full-time in RV’s. Not all travel like we do, but that is the appeal for us. Check out RVing, you might be glad you did!

Kathy and John Huggins

Kathy and I are really just plain folks like you, but we live in a thirty nine foot RV instead of a house. Maybe we lost our minds a bit; but we’re happy we did. I am retired from the US Navy as well as a retired manufacturing Quality Manager. Kathy has worked extensively in the medical administrative field. We had travelled worldwide due to my naval service as well as locations on both coasts of our beautiful country. We would see the big bus conversions and Winnebago RV’s on the interstates and we both said, “one day that will be us”. We started dreaming in earnest in 2003, a year before my job was out sourced. We went to shows and visited dealerships just to see if we could really do this. We could. We took the plunge two years later after we sold our house in Florida and bought “The Dream Machine”, our 2004 Fleetwood Expedition diesel motor home. Since then we have travelled through the states we used to fly over and discovered a unique and awesomely beautiful land that pictures do not give justice to. We have been volunteers, workampers, podcasters, and now authors. Our Podcast, or internet radio show is titled Living the RV Dream and we discuss everything about the RV lifestyle. Check it out on iTunes in the podcast section or on our website. Our blog is also available on our website on the Podcast and blog page. We have written 2 books. The first is "So, You Want to be an RVer?" as an eBook and the same text in "So, You Want to be a Full-Time RVer?" as a paperback. Next came "So, You Want to be a Workamper?" both are available on Amazon.com I hope you enjoy our books; and if you see us on the road, honk and wave. Please check out our very extensive website with much information about every kind of RVing. Also visit our 18,000 member Facebook group And you can reach us by email.
