The Art of Listening

He had lived a long life and he deserved to tell his stories.

A few days before Diana and I left for Arizona and our second life, I visited Gail in his home and said goodbye for the winter. He leaned back in his easy chair and told me how he appreciated visiting with me over the summer and wished me and my wife well.

“Oh, I’ll see you in the spring, Gail,” I said. We’ve got more to talk about.”

“I hope so,” He said with a wave. “But you never know what the good Lord has in store for us.”

Now that I’m here in Arizona, I do hope I see Gail when I get back. But as Gail says, you never know.

One thing I know for sure though. Because of Gail, I take life a lot less seriously now.
