I stifled a laugh and once again glanced over at her. “Well, there’s a little more to it than that.” I said.

She turned her head and shot me a puzzled look.” What do you mean grandpa?

“Well,” I stammered. I, uh, well.”

Out the front of the windshield I could suddenly see a vision. It was the same vision I saw whenever I glanced over at the mirror as I strode through our bathroom.

I quickly looked over at Emily. She was waiting expectantly for my reply.

I swallowed hard. “Sometimes just wearing underwear can be the opposite of sexy.” I heard myself say.

“Huh?” Her little nose wrinkled up and she squinted her eyes at me as she absorbed this seemingly unheard of revelation. “What do you mean grandpa?”

“Well, uh,” I could once again feel the heat rising to my head and I started to grip the steering wheel hard again, so hard that I thought it was going to break. “Let’s talk about something else. What did you do in school this week?”

And with that, the definition of sexy was long forgotten as Emily eagerly dove into stories of her teacher, her friends and the games she played during recess.

I breathed a sigh of relief and could feel my grip on the steering wheel loosen considerably.
